Our Take

Frightened Rabbit's 10th anniversary edition of "The Woodpile" is a delightful romp through the Scottish indie rock band's back catalogue. This reissue of the classic track offers a fresh take on the beloved song, with a new energy that will make you want to dance like nobody's watching (even though everyone in the room definitely is).

From the first strum of the guitar to the last haunting note, lead singer Scott Hutchison's powerful vocals take you on a rollercoaster of emotion. The lyrics, filled with witty wordplay and raw honesty, cut straight to the heart and linger long after the music fades. The Woodpile is a testament to the band's ability to craft catchy melodies while exploring deeper themes of love, loss, and existential dread.

The band's signature sound, a blend of folk-infused indie rock with a hint of melancholy, is on full display here. The layered instrumentals and tight harmonies create a lush sonic landscape that envelops the listener in a warm embrace. It's like a musical hug from a Scottish uncle who may or may not have had one too many whiskies.

Overall, Frightened Rabbit's The Woodpile is a must-listen for both die-hard fans and newcomers to the band's music. It's a celebration of everything that makes this band great, and a reminder of why their music continues to resonate with listeners around the world. So grab your kilt, pour yourself a dram, and get ready to be enchanted by this timeless gem of an album. Cheers!

About the artist

Frightened Rabbit

FRIGHTENED RABBIT: The Scottish quartet with a knack for blending introspective lyrics with infectious indie hooks. Hailing from Selkirk, FRIGHTENED RABBIT burst onto the music scene in 2006 with their debut album, "Sing the Greys." Frontman Scott Hutchison's raw and emotionally charged songwriting quickly caught the attention of music lovers around the world. Their follow-up album, "The Midnight Organ Fight," solidified their place in the indie music landscape. Tracks like "Keep Yourself Warm" and "The Modern Leper" showcased the band's ability to tackle heavy subject matter with a wry sense of humour and irresistible melodies. With each subsequent release, including "The Winter of Mixed Drinks" and "Pedestrian Verse," FRIGHTENED RABBIT continued to evolve their sound while staying true to their roots. Their music has a way of making you feel like you're sitting down for a heart-to-heart with an old friend, albeit one who can also rock out on stage like nobody's business. Tragically, the band's journey came to a heartbreaking end with the passing of Scott Hutchison in 2018. His lyrics, which have always been marked by a poignant mix of vulnerability and resilience, now carry an even greater weight. FRIGHTENED RABBIT may no longer be gracing stages with their presence, but their music lives on as a testament to the healing power of art. So, put on "The Midnight Organ Fight," pour yourself a glass of whisky, and let FRIGHTENED RABBIT's music wrap you in a warm, angsty embrace.
