Our Take

Gather round, music aficionados, because we're diving headfirst into the 10th anniversary reissue of Frightened Rabbit's "Backyard Skulls." And let me tell you, this album is like a fine wine, getting better with age.

From the moment you press play, you're transported to a world of raw emotion and haunting melodies. The Scottish band's signature blend of indie rock and folk is on full display, with frontman Scott Hutchison's vocals cutting straight to the heart.

"Backyard Skulls" is a rollercoaster of emotions, with tracks like "Acts of Man" and "Dead Now" hitting you right in the feels, while songs like "The Woodpile" and "Late March, Death March" will have you tapping your foot along to the infectious beats.

But it's not just the music that shines on this album - the lyrics are truly something special. Hutchison's storytelling is both poignant and relatable, making you feel as though he's singing directly to you.

Overall, "Backyard Skulls" is a true masterpiece that deserves its place in the indie hall of fame. So grab a pint, settle in, and let Frightened Rabbit's enchanting melodies wash over you. Trust me, you won't regret it. Cheers!

About the artist

Frightened Rabbit

FRIGHTENED RABBIT: The Scottish quartet with a knack for blending introspective lyrics with infectious indie hooks. Hailing from Selkirk, FRIGHTENED RABBIT burst onto the music scene in 2006 with their debut album, "Sing the Greys." Frontman Scott Hutchison's raw and emotionally charged songwriting quickly caught the attention of music lovers around the world. Their follow-up album, "The Midnight Organ Fight," solidified their place in the indie music landscape. Tracks like "Keep Yourself Warm" and "The Modern Leper" showcased the band's ability to tackle heavy subject matter with a wry sense of humour and irresistible melodies. With each subsequent release, including "The Winter of Mixed Drinks" and "Pedestrian Verse," FRIGHTENED RABBIT continued to evolve their sound while staying true to their roots. Their music has a way of making you feel like you're sitting down for a heart-to-heart with an old friend, albeit one who can also rock out on stage like nobody's business. Tragically, the band's journey came to a heartbreaking end with the passing of Scott Hutchison in 2018. His lyrics, which have always been marked by a poignant mix of vulnerability and resilience, now carry an even greater weight. FRIGHTENED RABBIT may no longer be gracing stages with their presence, but their music lives on as a testament to the healing power of art. So, put on "The Midnight Organ Fight," pour yourself a glass of whisky, and let FRIGHTENED RABBIT's music wrap you in a warm, angsty embrace.
