Our Take
Our Take
Ah, Galaxie 500, the band that perfectly encapsulates indie rock charm with a whispery twist. Their latest release, "Uncollected Noise New York 88-90," is a delightful trip down memory lane, showcasing the band's raw talent in a vibrant coloured vinyl package.
The album kicks off with "Tugboat," a dreamy track that sets the tone for the rest of the collection. Dean Wareham's soothing vocals combined with the band's fuzzy guitar riffs create a nostalgic sound that will transport you back to the heyday of 80s indie rock.
Tracks like "Oblivious" and "King of Spain" showcase the band's ability to craft catchy melodies with a lo-fi edge. The lo-fi production adds to the album's charm, giving it a DIY feel that is quintessentially Galaxie 500.
While some may argue that the collection lacks cohesiveness due to its nature as a compilation of unreleased tracks, there's no denying the infectious energy that runs through each song. From the jangly guitars to the laid-back drum beats, "Uncollected Noise New York 88-90" is a true gem for fans of indie rock's golden era.
So grab your headphones, sit back, and let Galaxie 500's timeless tunes wash over you. You won't be disappointed. Verdict: A must-have for any indie rock enthusiast.

About the artist
Galaxie 500
Galaxie 500 may have been one of the most effortlessly cool bands to come out of the American indie scene in the late 80s. Formed in Boston in 1987, the trio consisted of vocalist/guitarist Dean Wareham, bassist Naomi Yang, and drummer Damon Krukowski. Despite their short-lived career, Galaxie 500 left a lasting impact on the dream pop genre, influencing a wave of bands that would follow in their hazy, atmospheric footsteps. With their blend of melancholic melodies, hypnotic guitar riffs, and gently murmured vocals, Galaxie 500 crafted a sound that was both ethereal and emotionally resonant. It's no wonder that their music has been described as the sonic equivalent of floating on a cloud of nostalgia. The band's debut album, "Today," released in 1988, immediately established them as darlings of the underground music scene. Tracks like "Tugboat" and "Oblivious" showcased their signature dreamy sound, drawing in listeners with their understated beauty and introspective lyrics. Galaxie 500's sophomore effort, "On Fire," continued to captivate audiences with its dreamy sonic landscapes and hauntingly beautiful songs. Standout tracks like "Blue Thunder" and "Strange" cemented their reputation as masters of mood and atmosphere. By the time they released their final album, "This Is Our Music," in 1990, Galaxie 500 had already established themselves as a cult favourite. While their time together may have been short, their legacy lives on in the hearts of fans and musicians alike. Galaxie 500 may have burned out quickly, but their music continues to shine brightly, casting a dreamy glow over the indie music landscape.
