Our Take

Once in a blue moon, a band comes along that changes the game entirely. And let me tell you, Candlemass is not that band. The Pendulum, the latest offering from these Swedish doom metal legends, is about as groundbreaking as a slice of bread. But hey, sometimes you just want a damn good slice of bread.

From the moment the opening track "The Pendulum" kicks in, you know you're in for a classic Candlemass experience. Crushing riffs, haunting vocals, and enough dark atmosphere to make even the goth kids feel a little uneasy. It's like slipping into your favourite pair of black skinny jeans - familiar, comforting, and just a little bit too tight around the waist.

Standout tracks include "Snakes of Goliath" which combines biblical imagery with a killer guitar solo that will have you air guitaring like it's 1986, and "The Black Room" which is as sinister as it sounds. Seriously, don't listen to that one alone in the dark.

Sure, Candlemass may not be reinventing the wheel with The Pendulum, but who needs a new wheel when the old one still rocks this hard? So grab a candle, light it at both ends, and let the doom wash over you like a slow-moving tidal wave of pure, unadulterated metal. Candlemass may not be shaking things up, but damn if they don't know how to keep things burning bright.
