          Our Take
GWAR's latest offering, "The New Dark Ages," is a cacophony of chaos and brilliance that proves the band is still reign supreme in the world of metal. From the moment the opening track, "War on GWAR," kicks in, you can feel the energy and intensity radiating from your speakers.
The band's signature blend of thrash, punk and theatre is on full display here, with each track serving as a bloody battleground for the warriors of GWAR to unleash their sonic fury. Songs like "Bleed For Us" and "Rage of the Eternal Warrior" are masterclasses in aggressive riffing and guttural vocals, while "Slaughterama" and "Black and Huge" showcase the band's knack for catchy, anthemic choruses.
But what sets "The New Dark Ages" apart from GWAR's previous work is the depth and complexity of the songwriting. Tracks like "Wasteland" and "Dystopia" delve into themes of societal collapse and existential dread, giving the album a sense of urgency and relevance that few metal bands can match.
In short, "The New Dark Ages" is a triumph for GWAR, a band that has been laying waste to stages and eardrums for over three decades. If you're a fan of heavy music that doesn't take itself too seriously, do yourself a favour and crank this album up to 11. Just be sure to don your finest battle armour before pressing play.

About the artist
GWAR
GWAR may appear to be a group of intergalactic barbarians hell-bent on destroying Earth with their outrageous stage antics and outlandish costumes, but don't be fooled by their otherworldly appearance - beneath the grotesque façade lies a band of musical virtuosos who have been rocking the metal scene for over three decades. Hailing from the planet Scumdogia, GWAR burst onto the music scene in the late 1980s with their unique blend of thrash metal, punk rock, and shock rock. Known for their over-the-top live shows that involve copious amounts of fake blood, gore, and elaborate costumes, GWAR have cultivated a loyal following of fans who flock to their concerts to witness the chaos unfold. Led by the enigmatic frontman Oderus Urungus (played by the late Dave Brockie), GWAR have released a string of critically acclaimed albums over the years, including "Scumdogs of the Universe" and "America Must Be Destroyed". Their tongue-in-cheek lyrics and satirical take on politics and pop culture have earned them a cult following and cemented their status as one of the most unique and enduring bands in the metal genre. Despite facing numerous lineup changes and personal tragedies over the years, GWAR have remained a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. With their larger-than-life personas and their unapologetically bombastic music, GWAR continue to push boundaries and defy expectations, proving that sometimes it takes a group of alien warriors to remind us all to not take ourselves too seriously.
