Our Take
Our Take
WHITESNAKE's "Restless Heart" feels like a blast from the past, but not necessarily in a good way. The album, released in 1997, showcases the band trying to reinvent themselves in a changing music landscape. Lead singer David Coverdale's signature croon is still present, but it's like hearing your grandad trying to be cool by wearing a backwards cap - it just doesn't quite work.
The production on "Restless Heart" is over-the-top, with excessive guitar solos and bombastic drums that feel more like a parody of 80s rock than a genuine attempt at a comeback. The tracks lack the infectious energy that made WHITESNAKE famous in their heyday, instead feeling like pale imitations of their former glory.
That being said, there are moments on the album that show glimpses of potential. "Too Many Tears" is a heartfelt ballad that showcases Coverdale's emotive vocals, while "Don't Fade Away" has a catchy chorus that will have you tapping your foot along.
In the end, "Restless Heart" feels like a failed attempt at recapturing past success. While diehard WHITESNAKE fans may find something to enjoy here, for the rest of us, it's a forgettable listen that ultimately falls flat. Sorry, WHITESNAKE, better luck next time.
