Our Take

Ah, Eddie Money, the man with the voice that could charm the birds out of the trees. Playing For Keeps, his latest effort, is like a warm hug from an old friend - comforting, familiar, and just a tad bit cheesy.

From the opening track, "Running Back", Money's gravelly vocals soar over catchy guitar riffs and infectious melodies. It's classic Eddie through and through, with a touch of 80s rock nostalgia thrown in for good measure.

But don't be fooled by the nostalgia trip - Playing For Keeps has its fair share of surprises too. Tracks like "The Big Crash" and "Club Michelle" showcase Money's range as a songwriter, delving into darker themes with a hint of melancholy.

Of course, no Eddie Money album would be complete without a good old fashioned love ballad, and Playing For Keeps delivers on that front too. "Let's Be Lovers Again" is a swoon-worthy duet that will have you reaching for the nearest candle and a bottle of wine.

Overall, Playing For Keeps is a solid addition to Eddie Money's discography. It may not reinvent the wheel, but it's a fun, nostalgic romp that will have you tapping your toes and singing along in no time. Eddie Money may not be playing for keeps, but he's certainly playing for our hearts.
