Our Take
Preoccupations latest release, Mur/Pon, is a whirlwind of emotions wrapped up in a post-punk package. The band, formerly known as Viet Cong, have rebranded themselves and their music reflects a newfound confidence and maturity. The album kicks off with the brooding track "Espionage," setting the tone for the rest of the record. The moody vocals and haunting instrumentation create an atmosphere that is as dark as a crypt on a moonless night. As the album progresses, Preoccupations flaunt their experimental side with tracks like "Fever" and "Fickle Sun." These songs showcase the band's willingness to take risks and push the boundaries of their sound. But it's the standout track "Antidote" that truly steals the show. With its infectious melody and catchy chorus, it's impossible not to get swept up in the song's energy. Overall, Mur/Pon is a solid effort from Preoccupations.
