Our Take
Swiss rockers Krokus have unleashed their magnum opus in the form of "Metal Rendez-vous," a cheeky concoction of sleazy riffs and infectious choruses that will have you reaching for your leather jacket and hairspray in no time. From the moment the opening track "Heatstrokes" blasts through your speakers, you know you're in for a wild ride. The band's knack for delivering anthemic, head-banging tunes is on full display here, with guitarist Fernando Von Arb shredding through solos like a man possessed and vocalist Marc Storace wailing like a banshee on steroids. Tracks like "Bedside Radio" and "Tokyo Nights" showcase Krokus at their most playful and bombastic, with catchy hooks that will have you singing along in no time. The production is delightfully retro, with a gloriously cheesy sheen that wouldn't be out of place on an 80s action movie soundtrack. However, there are moments on "Metal Rendez-vous" where the band's over-the-top antics tip into the realm of parody. Tracks like "Rock City" and "Lady Double Dealer" veer dangerously close to Spinal Tap territory, with lyrics that are so gloriously ridiculous that you can't help but smile.
