Our Take

Gregory Isaacs' latest album "Maximum Respect" is a smooth, groovy journey through the legendary reggae artist's expansive career. The record kicks off with the infectious track "Cool Ruler" which sets the tone for the rest of the album - laid-back melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and Isaacs' trademark velvety vocals.

Songs like "Night Nurse" and "Love is Overdue" showcase Isaacs' ability to balance romance and social commentary with ease. The production on "Maximum Respect" is slick and polished, with each instrument shining through in the mix. From the soulful saxophone on "Stranger in Town" to the funky bass lines on "Private Beach Party," every note is perfectly placed.

Isaacs' songwriting shines brightest on tracks like "Willow Tree" and "Soon Forward," where his poetic lyricism and soulful delivery transport the listener to a place of pure relaxation and contemplation. The album's closer, "Rumours," leaves us wanting more, a perfect ending to an already perfect record.

Overall, "Maximum Respect" is a testament to Gregory Isaacs' enduring talent and influence in the reggae world. With this album, he proves yet again why he's known as the "Cool Ruler" of reggae music. So sit back, relax, and give Gregory Isaacs the maximum respect he deserves.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1951, Isaacs first made a name for himself in the late 1960s as part of the duo The Concords.
