With the Dead's latest album, Love from With the Dead, is like a sonic punch in the face – in the best possible way. This band, comprised of veterans from legendary doom metal outfits like Cathedral and Electric Wizard, have crafted a collection of tracks that are as heavy as they come.
From the moment the first riff kicks in on the opening track, "Isolation," you know you're in for a wild ride. The guitars are thick and fuzzy, the drums are pounding, and the vocals are suitably demonic. It's like being trapped in a haunted house with a pack of rabid wolves – and I mean that in the best way.
Tracks like "Egyptian Tomb" and "Reincarnation of the Damned" showcase With the Dead's unrelenting commitment to all things heavy. The guitars are so downtuned, they practically scrape the floor, while the bass rumbles like an earthquake.
But it's not all doom and gloom – With the Dead injects plenty of groove and melody into their songs, making them much more than just a one-trick pony. "Cocaine Phantoms" is a prime example, with its infectious riff and catchy chorus.
Love from With the Dead is a love letter to all things heavy and doom-laden. If you're a fan of loud, crushing music that will leave your ears ringing for days, then this album is definitely for you. Just make sure to wear earplugs – you'll thank me later.
