Our Take
Our Take
THROOOOONEHAMMER! No, that wasn't a battle cry, that was just the sound of me trying to pronounce the name of this album without spitting everywhere. Kingslayer (+12 Page Booklet) has landed like a giant hammer of doom on the music scene, and let me tell you, it's leaving a huge crater in its wake.
From the moment you press play, you're hit with a wall of sound so heavy, you'll feel like you've been transported back to the Middle Ages, with a castle siege raging in your living room. But don't worry, no actual knights were harmed in the making of this album (I think).
The vocals are as fierce as a dragon's roar, with more layers than an onion (or a parfait, if you're a fan of Shrek). The guitars are so crunchy, you'll be picking bits of riff out of your teeth for days. And the drumming is so thunderous, you'll swear there's a storm brewing right above your head.
But it's not all doom and gloom. There are moments of beauty and grace scattered throughout the album, like a ray of sunlight breaking through the clouds on a stormy day. The melodies are haunting, the harmonies are heavenly, and the overall vibe is like being wrapped in a warm, fuzzy blanket made of heavy metal.
So, grab your battle axe, put on your chainmail, and prepare for a musical journey that will leave you feeling like a true Kingslayer. Just remember to watch out for flying debris – this album packs a serious punch.

About the artist
Thronehammer
Oh, Thronehammer, where do we even begin? This epic trio hailing from the depths of doom metal's darkest abyss is not for the faint of heart. With a sound as heavy as a ton of bricks and lyrics that could make even the most hardened metalhead quiver in their boots, Thronehammer is a force to be reckoned with. Led by the powerhouse vocals of singer Kat Shevil (formerly of a slew of legendary underground bands), Thronehammer combines the crushing riffs of guitarist Stuart West and the thunderous drums of drummer Tim, creating a sonic assault that is as doom-laden as it is exhilarating. Their debut album, "Usurper of the Oak Throne," is a masterclass in doom metal that takes no prisoners. From the bone-rattling opener, "Behind The Wall of Frost," to the haunting closer, "Thronehammer," this album is a journey through the dark, twisted realms of metal madness. But don't let their heavy sound fool you - Thronehammer has a wicked sense of humour that shines through in their music. Whether they're singing about demonic rituals or ancient curses, there's always a twinkle of mischief in their eyes. So, if you're in the mood for some epic, face-melting metal that will leave you begging for more, look no further than Thronehammer. Just be sure to wear your earplugs - you're going to need them.
