Kidz Bop Kids' latest seasonal offering, "Kidz Bop Christmas," hits the shelves with all the subtlety of a tinsel-covered wrecking ball. The group of pint-sized crooners tackle festive classics with the enthusiasm of children who have had one too many mince pies. From the moment you press play, you are transported into a world where Jingle Bells sound more like a car alarm than a traditional Christmas carol. The album opens with a rendition of "All I Want for Christmas Is You," where the Kidz Bop Kids manage to strip away every last ounce of Mariah Carey's vocal prowess, leaving behind a saccharine-sweet concoction that is sure to make your teeth ache. This is followed by a lacklustre take on "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," which feels more like a threat than a joyous celebration of Saint Nick's impending arrival. Despite its shortcomings, "Kidz Bop Christmas" does have some redeeming qualities. The children's choir harmonies on tracks like "Silent Night" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" are undeniably charming, and the production quality is top-notch. However, these moments of brilliance are few and far between on an album that is ultimately more naughty than nice.
