Our Take
Our Take
Finnish power metal pioneers Stratovarius make a triumphant return with their album "Intermission," a collection of b-sides and bonus tracks that showcase the band's unmatched talent and versatility.
From the symphonic epic "Will My Soul Ever Rest in Peace" to the blistering speed metal of "Kill the King," Stratovarius proves once again why they are one of the most influential bands in the genre. The album is a rollercoaster of emotions, with uplifting anthems like "Dream with Me" contrasting with the darker, more introspective tracks such as "Nightfall."
Lead vocalist Timo Kotipelto's soaring vocals are as powerful as ever, while guitarist Timo Tolkki's intricate riffs and solos will leave you in awe. The band's musicianship is on full display throughout the album, with keyboardist Jens Johansson and drummer Jörg Michael providing a solid backbone for the band's sound.
"Intermission" may be a collection of leftover tracks, but there is nothing lacklustre about it. Each song is a gem in its own right, showcasing the band at the height of their powers. Whether you're a die-hard fan or a newcomer to the world of power metal, this album is sure to leave you wanting more. Stratovarius have once again proven why they are legends in the genre, and "Intermission" is a must-have for any metalhead's collection.

About the artist
Stratovarius
Finnish power metal legends Stratovarius have been melting faces and blowing minds since the early 1990s. With their epic, virtuosic musicianship and soaring, operatic vocals, these guys are like the Wagner of metal--except with way more denim and leather. Formed in 1984 in Helsinki, Stratovarius quickly made a name for themselves with their technical prowess and catchy hooks. Guitarist Timo Tolkki, keyboardist Jens Johansson, and vocalist Timo Kotipelto are just a few of the virtuosos that make up this powerhouse of a band. Their music is a unique blend of classical influences, melodic metal riffs, and hair-raising solos that will make even the most hardened headbanger shed a tear (of joy, of course). Songs like "Black Diamond" and "Hunting High and Low" showcase their ability to seamlessly blend high-speed riffage with emotionally charged melodies. But it's not all serious business with these guys. Known for their playful, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and penchant for over-the-top theatrics, Stratovarius know how to have a good time. Whether they're rocking out on stage or goofing off in interviews, these guys never fail to entertain. With a discography that spans over 30 years and includes over 15 albums, Stratovarius are true veterans of the metal scene. And with their relentless touring schedule and passionate fanbase, it's clear that these guys aren't slowing down anytime soon. Bow down to the gods of power metal, because Stratovarius are here to stay.
