Our Take
Ah, Dire Straits. The band that made millions think they had a shot at being badass guitarists just by owning a headband. Their latest album "Cologne" is a mix of nostalgia and confusion that'll have you questioning if you're still in 1985. From the moment you press play, you're transported back to a time when mullets were cool and synthesizers were king. The opening track "Smelly Streets" sets the tone with its catchy riffs and questionable lyrics about, well, smelly streets. But it's not all retro vibes and questionable hygiene references. Tracks like "Bubble Bath Boogie" and "Shower Song Serenade" bring a modern twist to the album, blending Dire Straits' signature sound with a fresh, funky groove that'll have you tapping your foot in the bath. Unfortunately, not every track hits the mark. "Toilet Tune" feels like a filler track, with its repetitive melody and uninspired lyrics about, you guessed it, toilets. And "Shampoo Shuffle" misses the mark with its clumsy attempt at incorporating hair care products into a rock ballad. Overall, "Cologne" is a mixed bag. It's a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a few bumps along the way. But if you're a die-hard Dire Straits fan looking for a new addition to your collection, this album might just hit the spot. Just don't blame us if you suddenly feel the urge to bust out your old headband.
