Our Take

Ah, Dire Straits. The band that gave us the iconic riff of "Sultans of Swing" is back with their sophomore album, "Communiqué".

Mark Knopfler's smooth guitar licks and distinctive vocals are once again front and centre on this record, but unfortunately, the magic of their debut seems to have lost its spark.

The production on "Communiqué" feels a bit lacklustre compared to their previous efforts, with songs like "Once Upon a Time in the West" and "Lady Writer" failing to capture the same energy and excitement that made us fall in love with Dire Straits in the first place.

That being said, there are still moments of brilliance scattered throughout the album. Tracks like "News" and "Where Do You Think You're Going?" showcase Knopfler's songwriting prowess and knack for storytelling, reminding us why we fell in love with Dire Straits in the first place.

Overall, "Communiqué" may not reach the heights of their debut, but it's still a solid effort from one of the most iconic bands in rock history. So grab your headband, put on your leather jacket, and let Dire Straits take you on a journey through the streets of London - just don't expect to be blown away like you were the first time around.
