Our Take
Valborg's latest album, Zentrumin, is a trip into the weird and wonderful world of avant-garde metal. This German trio have been pushing musical boundaries for years, and this album is no exception.
Opening track "Sulphur Vitriol Angel" sets the tone perfectly, with its eerie vocals and chugging riffs creating a sense of unease that lingers throughout the album. The band effortlessly blends elements of black metal, doom metal, and psychedelia to create a sound that is truly unique.
Tracks like "Irrlicht" and "Bunkerluft" showcase the band's technical prowess, with intricate guitar work and complex rhythms keeping the listener on their toes. But don't think this album is all serious business – there are plenty of moments of light relief, such as the infectious hooks of "Kongen" and the psychedelic weirdness of "Unbemerkt von allen."
Valborg have always been known for their dark and introspective lyrics, and Zentrumin is no exception. Themes of isolation, madness, and existential dread run throughout the album, creating a sense of unease that is impossible to shake.
