Album Review: Greg Brown - Yellow Dog
Greg Brown, the gravel-voiced troubadour from Iowa, is back with his latest offering, "Yellow Dog". This album is a delicious mishmash of blues, folk, and Americana that will have you tapping your feet and contemplating life's deepest mysteries at the same time.
The opening track, "Walking the Dog", sets the tone for the rest of the album, with Brown's signature storytelling style and gritty vocals taking centre stage. It's a toe-tapping ditty that will have you itching to hit the road and go on your own adventure.
"Yellow Dog" is not without its moments of introspection, though. Tracks like "Lonely Road" and "Empty Pockets" show a softer, more vulnerable side to Brown's songwriting, proving that even a grizzled old dog like him has a tender heart beneath that rough exterior.
The real standout track on the album, however, is "Dusty Road Blues". It's a rollicking, foot-stomping romp through the backwaters of the American South that will have you reaching for your air guitar and pretending you're a blues legend in your own right.
