Our Take

HANK MARVIN's latest album, Words And Music, is like a blast from the past set to a catchy tune. The legendary guitarist may be known for his work with The Shadows, but this solo effort proves he still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.

The album kicks off with the infectious title track, which sets the tone for what's to come. Marvin's guitar work is as sharp as ever, weaving effortlessly through each song with precision and flair. From the jazzy vibes of "Blue Star" to the sultry tones of "Georgia on my Mind," Marvin showcases his versatility and skill throughout.

But it's not all smooth sailing on Words And Music. Some tracks feel a bit dated, with cheesy lyrics and predictable melodies. "Dancing Shoes" is a prime example, with its cringe-worthy chorus and lacklustre instrumentation.

Despite these missteps, there are still moments of brilliance scattered throughout the album. "Summer Love" is a standout track, with its infectious groove and soulful vocals. And the closing number, "Time Stands Still," is a hauntingly beautiful ballad that showcases Marvin's emotional depth.

Overall, Words And Music is a solid effort from a music legend. While it may not reinvent the wheel, it's a fun and nostalgic listen that will appeal to fans both old and new. Sit back, relax, and let Hank Marvin take you on a musical journey through the past and present.
