Our Take
Our Take
Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves for a whirlwind journey into the murky depths of doom with Windhand's self-titled album. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, this band is no stranger to the sludgy, psychedelic world of stoner rock, and they certainly bring their A-game to the table on this release.
From the moment the record kicks off with the haunting, ethereal vocals of Dorthia Cottrell, you know you're in for a wild ride. The slow, churning riffs and thunderous drums create a feeling of impending doom that is impossible to shake. It's like being sucked into a black hole of distortion and despair, and you'll find yourself happily lost in its depths.
Tracks like "Orchard" and "Woodbine" showcase Windhand's ability to craft intricate, hypnotic melodies that wrap themselves around your brain and refuse to let go. The sheer weight and power of their sound is truly impressive, and you can't help but be swept away by the sheer force of their delivery.
But don't be fooled by the darkness and heaviness of Windhand's music - there's a sense of catharsis and release that comes with each thunderous riff and haunting lyric. It's like being stuck in a thunderstorm and finding solace in the chaos, knowing that you're not alone in your struggles.
So if you're in the mood for some soul-crushing, bone-rattling doom metal that will leave you feeling both exhilarated and utterly drained, look no further than Windhand's self-titled album. It's a journey you won't soon forget.

About the artist
Windhand
Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, the doom metal outfit WINDHAND have been shaking the foundations of the music scene since their formation in 2009. With their sludgy riffs and haunting vocals, this band has built a loyal following and cemented their reputation as one of the heaviest acts in the game. Lead singer Dorthia Cottrell's powerhouse vocals are a force to be reckoned with, drawing comparisons to the likes of Jex Thoth and PJ Harvey. The rest of the band - Asechiah Bogdan (guitar), Garrett Morris (guitar), Parker Chandler (bass), and Ryan Wolfe (drums) - provide the perfect backdrop for her haunting melodies, creating a sonic landscape that is equal parts mesmerising and devastating. Their 2015 album "Grief's Infernal Flower" showcased their ability to seamlessly blend elements of stoner rock, 70s psychedelia, and classic doom metal to create a sound that is uniquely their own. Tracks like "Two Urns" and "Hyperion" will transport you to a dark and brooding realm where every riff is heavier than the last. But don't let their crushing sound fool you - these guys know how to have a good time. Onstage, WINDHAND's energy is electric, with their blistering guitars and thunderous drums shaking venues to their core. If you're a fan of bands like Electric Wizard or Windhand, this is one group you won't want to miss. So grab your earplugs, brace yourself for a sonic assault, and prepare to be blown away by the sheer power of WINDHAND. Trust us, you won't regret it.
