Our Take

U2 are back with "Wide Awake in America," their latest attempt to remind us all that Bono is a philanthropic rock god with a heart of gold and a voice that could make angels weep. This EP features live recordings and outtakes that serve as a companion to their 1987 album "The Joshua Tree," which solidified their status as stadium rock titans.

The opening track "Bad" showcases Bono's vocal acrobatics, with the band delivering a powerful and emotional performance that is sure to give you goosebumps. The live version of "A Sort of Homecoming" is a treat for fans, capturing the energy and raw emotion of U2's live performances.

However, the real standout on this EP is the hauntingly beautiful "Love Comes Tumbling," a track that was inexplicably left off "The Joshua Tree." With its shimmering guitars and Bono's soulful vocals, this song is a hidden gem that deserves a spot in U2's greatest hits.

Overall, "Wide Awake in America" is a solid addition to U2's discography, but it may not be essential listening for casual fans. Die-hard U2 enthusiasts, on the other hand, will appreciate the rare glimpses into the band's creative process and the raw energy of their live performances. So grab a pint of Guinness, put on your sunglasses, and let U2 whisk you away to a world where rock and roll still reigns supreme.
