Our Take

Ah, Taking Back Sunday, the emo veterans who have been wearing their hearts on their sleeves since the early 2000s. Their latest offering, "Where You Want to Be," is a rollercoaster of emotions wrapped in crunchy guitar riffs and angsty lyrics. From the opening track "Set Phasers to Stun," it's clear that Taking Back Sunday are still masters of the catchy chorus and the infectious melody. The band's signature dual vocals, courtesy of Adam Lazzara and John Nolan, blend seamlessly together, creating a harmonious cacophony of angst and longing. Tracks like "Bonus Mosh Pt. II" and "A Decade Under the Influence" showcase the band's ability to mix punk rock energy with emo sensibility, creating a sound that is both raw and polished at the same time. The instrumentation is tight and intense, with each member of the band contributing their own unique flair to the overall sound. But it's not all brooding introspection and heartache. The album has its moments of levity, such as the playful "This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know)" and the tongue-in-cheek "I Am Fred Astaire." These tracks provide a welcome respite from the emotional intensity of the rest of the album. Overall, "Where You Want to Be" is a solid offering from Taking Back Sunday, showcasing a band that has matured and evolved while still staying true to their roots. Fans of emo and punk rock alike will find plenty to love in this album, making it a must-listen for anyone who has ever felt a little bit too deeply. It may not reinvent the wheel, but it sure does spin it in a damn good way.
