Our Take
Our Take
One can always count on Public Image Ltd (PIL) to deliver the goods, and their latest offering, "What The World Needs Now," is no exception. With their signature post-punk sound, John Lydon and co. have crafted an album that stays true to their roots while also pushing the boundaries of their musical style.
From the opening track, "Double Trouble," PIL grabs your attention and never lets go. Lydon's snarling vocals are as captivating as ever, and the band's infectious energy is palpable throughout the entire album. Whether it's the hard-hitting riffs of "Know Now" or the brooding atmospherics of "Corporate," PIL shows no signs of slowing down.
The album's production is top-notch, with each instrument shining through in the mix. The guitars crunch and wail, the bass thunders, and the drums pound with an intensity that is hard to ignore. PIL have always been known for their uncompromising sound, and "What The World Needs Now" is a perfect example of this.
Lyrically, the album is as biting and incisive as ever. Lydon's words cut through the music like a knife, tackling topics such as politics, society, and the state of the world with his trademark wit and intelligence. Tracks like "Big Blue Sky" and "Shoom" showcase Lydon's lyrical prowess, while also delivering some of the catchiest hooks on the album.
Overall, "What The World Needs Now" is a triumphant return for PIL. With its infectious energy, top-notch production, and incisive lyrics, this album is a must-listen for any fan of post-punk music. PIL may have been around for decades, but they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
