Our Take
Our Take
In the illustrious pantheon of Pink Floyd side projects, Richard Wright's solo album "Wet Dream" is both a diamond in the rough and a soggy mess. Released in 1978, this album is a true sonic journey through the mind of a man who spent his days as a keyboard wizard for one of the greatest bands of all time.
From the opening track "Mediterranean C" to the closing notes of "Against the Odds," Wright takes listeners on a psychedelic rollercoaster ride through lush synths, jazzy grooves, and dreamy vocal harmonies. However, these moments of brilliance are often overshadowed by awkward transitions and muddy production that leaves you feeling like you're trapped in a musical quicksand.
Despite its flaws, "Wet Dream" is a testament to Wright's musical prowess and his ability to craft intricate compositions that stand the test of time. Songs like "Summer Elegy" and "Drop In from the Top" showcase his talent for blending progressive rock with atmospheric textures, creating a sound that is both haunting and ethereal.
Ultimately, "Wet Dream" is a mixed bag of musical experimentation that may not be everyone's cup of tea. But for fans of Pink Floyd and the experimental sounds of the 70s, this album is a fascinating glimpse into the mind of a musical genius trying to find his footing outside of the confines of his legendary band. Dive in, and let the waves of "Wet Dream" wash over you in all its quirky, frenzied glory.

About the artist
Richard Wright
Richard Wright is the unsung hero of Pink Floyd, the man behind the keys who brought an ethereal atmosphere to the band's iconic sound. While not as flashy or conspicuous as some of his bandmates, Wright's contributions were essential in shaping the psychedelic and progressive rock landscapes of the 60s and 70s. Wright's velvety smooth keyboard touches added layers of depth and emotion to Pink Floyd's music, creating a sonic tapestry that transported listeners to new dimensions. His subtle yet powerful playing was the perfect complement to Roger Waters' thought-provoking lyrics and David Gilmour's searing guitar solos. While not as prolific in his songwriting contributions as his bandmates, Wright's influence on Pink Floyd cannot be understated. Tracks like "Echoes," "Us and Them," and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" showcase his talent for crafting intricate, otherworldly soundscapes that have stood the test of time. Outside of Pink Floyd, Wright released two solo albums, "Wet Dream" and "Broken China," which further showcased his unique musical vision. His solo work delved into more experimental territory, blending ambient textures with electronic elements to create a sound that was distinctly his own. Sadly, Wright's time with Pink Floyd was cut short with his untimely passing in 2008. However, his legacy lives on through his timeless contributions to some of the greatest albums in rock history. Richard Wright may not have always been in the spotlight, but his influence on music is undeniable.
