Our Take
Our Take
The Grateful Dead are back, baby, and this time they're taking us on a trip across the pond to London, England. Strap on your tie-dye and get ready for a wild ride at Wembley Empire Pool, where the Dead delivered a legendary performance on April 7, 1972.
This Black Friday release is a must-have for any Deadhead looking to relive a magical night in music history. From the opening notes of "Bertha" to the final chords of "Johnny B. Goode," the band is firing on all cylinders, with Jerry Garcia's guitar solos reaching sublime heights and Phil Lesh's bass lines keeping the groove alive.
The highlight of the night has to be the extended jam on "Dark Star," where the band ventures into uncharted territory and takes the audience on a cosmic journey through time and space. It's a mind-bending experience that will leave you feeling grateful to be alive.
But it's not all sunshine and roses at Wembley Empire Pool. The sound quality leaves a lot to be desired, with muddy bass and tinny highs marring an otherwise stellar performance. It's a shame that such a historic show was not captured in all its glory.
Despite its flaws, this live album is a testament to the enduring power of the Grateful Dead and their ability to captivate audiences with their unique blend of psychedelic rock and improvisational genius. So grab a copy, turn up the volume, and let the music transport you to a time when the Dead ruled the world.
