Our Take
Our Take
Hailed as one of the most iconic prog rock bands of the 70s, Emerson Lake & Palmer have returned with their live album “Welcome Back My Friends To The Show”. And let me tell you, this record is a wild ride from start to finish.
Opening with the bombastic “Hoedown”, ELP wastes no time in showcasing their virtuosic musicianship. The intricate keyboard solos by Keith Emerson, the thunderous basslines by Greg Lake, and the flawless drumming by Carl Palmer all come together to create a symphony of sound that is nothing short of exhilarating.
Tracks like “Karn Evil 9” and “Toccata” take the listener on a journey through complex time signatures and mind-bending arrangements. It's like a rollercoaster for your ears, with unexpected twists and turns at every corner.
But it's not all serious business. ELP also knows how to have fun, as evidenced by their playful cover of “Nutrocker”. It's a delightful romp that will have you tapping your feet and grinning from ear to ear.
Overall, “Welcome Back My Friends To The Show” is a must-listen for any prog rock aficionado. It's a testament to the enduring talent of Emerson Lake & Palmer, and a reminder of why they are considered legends in the genre. So sit back, relax, and let ELP take you on a sonic journey you won't soon forget. Cheers!

About the artist
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Emerson Lake & Palmer, or ELP as they are affectionately known by their legions of devoted fans, are a progressive rock supergroup hailing from merry old England. The trio consists of Keith Emerson on keyboards, Greg Lake on guitar and vocals, and Carl Palmer on drums. Formed in the early 1970s, ELP quickly made a name for themselves with their intricate and virtuosic blend of classical, jazz, and rock influences. Emerson's lightning-fast fingers on the keys, Lake's smooth vocals and bass playing, and Palmer's thunderous drumming combined to create an unforgettable sound that solidified their place in the annals of rock history. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1970, showcased their unique style and garnered critical acclaim, setting the stage for a string of successful albums to follow. Classics such as "Brain Salad Surgery" and "Tarkus" solidified their status as one of the most innovative and pioneering bands of their time. But it wasn't just their music that set ELP apart from their peers. Their elaborate stage shows, complete with soaring synthesizers, pyrotechnics, and even a giant rotating drum kit, became the stuff of legend. ELP truly were the rock stars of the prog rock world, pushing the boundaries of what was thought possible in live performance. Sadly, the band disbanded in the late 1970s, but their influence can still be heard in the music of countless bands today. Emerson Lake & Palmer may have come and gone, but their legacy lives on in the hearts of fans old and new.
