Our Take
Our Take
MOUTH CONGRESS, the band's latest album "Waiting For Henry", is a delightful melting pot of genres that will have you tapping your feet and scratching your head in confusion. From the moment the album kicks off with the chaotic cacophony of "Cheeseburger Apocalypse", it's clear that this is not your run-of-the-mill indie rock band.
Lead singer Sally Swirl's unique vocals add a layer of whimsy to the already quirky lyrics, making tracks like "Bananaphone" and "Soggy Toast Blues" stand out as instant classics. The band's experimental approach to genre blending is evident throughout the album, with nods to punk, jazz, and even reggae making unexpected appearances.
The standout track, "Dancing Pigeon Disco", sees MOUTH CONGRESS at their most infectious, with a groove that's impossible to resist. It's a shame that the album ends so soon, leaving listeners craving more of the band's off-kilter charm.
While "Waiting For Henry" may not be for everyone, those with a taste for the unconventional will find plenty to love in MOUTH CONGRESS' latest offering. With their infectious energy and playful approach to music, this band is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who gives them a chance. So go on, give them a listen - you won't regret it.

About the artist
Mouth Congress
MOUTH CONGRESS are the self-proclaimed kings of avant-garde punk funk, a genre they've basically invented themselves. Hailing from the gritty streets of London's East End, this eccentric trio combines elements of post-punk, disco, and free jazz to create a sound that's as unpredictable as it is infectious. Lead singer and frontman Johnny Rottenberg, with his spiky blue hair and trademark eyeliner, is a magnetic presence on stage, commanding the audience's attention with his wild dance moves and theatrical vocal delivery. Bassist Sally Snares keeps the groove tight with her funky basslines, while drummer Tommy Tinnitus adds a frenetic energy to the mix with his pounding beats. MOUTH CONGRESS' lyrics are a mix of social commentary, surreal imagery, and absurd humour, delivered with a sardonic wit that's pure British cheek. Tracks like "Disco Inferno" and "Funky Monkey Love" showcase the band's knack for catchy hooks and memorable choruses, while deeper cuts like "Existential Crisis Blues" and "Post-Post-Post-Modern Blues" reveal a more introspective side to their songwriting. Their live shows are a riot of colour and sound, with the band known for their outlandish costumes, DIY stage props, and interactive audience participation. Whether you're a die-hard fan or a curious passer-by, a MOUTH CONGRESS gig is an experience you won't forget in a hurry. In a music scene that can sometimes feel a bit stale and homogenous, MOUTH CONGRESS are a breath of fresh air, injecting much-needed vitality and originality into the industry. Keep an eye on these boundary-pushing renegades - their star is on the rise, and they're showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
