Our Take

Leonard Cohen's "Various Positions" - more like various disappointments, am I right? This album feels like taking a leisurely stroll through a minefield - you never know when a dud lyric or lackluster melody is going to blow up in your face.

Cohen, the king of melancholy ballads, seems to have lost his touch on this one. The production feels as dated as your granddad's old vinyl collection, and the overall vibe is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Tracks like "Dance Me to the End of Love" and "Hallelujah" certainly have their moments, but they are overshadowed by the rest of the album's forgettable offerings. It's like trying to find a diamond in a pile of gravel - you might find one, but it's not worth the effort.

Cohen's gravelly voice, once a trademark of his haunting sound, now just feels tired and worn out. It's like hearing your favourite childhood toy run out of batteries - it's sad, disappointing, and a little bit depressing.

Overall, "Various Positions" is a mixed bag of mediocrity. It's not the worst thing you'll ever listen to, but it's far from Cohen's best work. Maybe stick to his earlier albums if you want to experience the true brilliance of this once-great artist.
