Our Take

Monolord may sound like a pretentious Scandinavian superhero, but they're actually a trio of heavy doom metallers from Sweden. Their latest offering, Vaenir, is a sonic assault on the senses, promising to crush your skull with its sludgy riffs and thunderous drums.

From the moment the opening track "Cursing the One" kicks in, you know you're in for a wild ride. The guitars are as thick as a Swedish winter, the bass is as heavy as a Viking warship, and the vocals are as brooding as a gloomy fjord. It's like being trapped in a feedback loop of despair, but in a strangely enjoyable way.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Nuclear Death," which combines bone-crushing riffs with hypnotic melodies to create a truly epic sound. It's the kind of song that makes you want to throw up the horns and headbang until your neck snaps.

But it's not all doom and gloom on Vaenir. Tracks like "The Cosmic Silence" and "Died a Million Times" showcase Monolord's ability to craft atmospheric, psychedelic soundscapes that hint at a more introspective side to the band.

Overall, Vaenir is a beast of an album that will appeal to fans of Sleep, Electric Wizard, and all things heavy and sludgy. So grab your earplugs, crank up the volume, and prepare to have your eardrums obliterated by Monolord's sonic onslaught.

Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, MONOLORD is a band that has been making waves in the stoner/doom metal scene since their formation in 2013. Comprised of Thomas Jäger on vocals and guitar, Esben Willems on drums, and Mika Häkki on bass, this power trio delivers a sonic punch that will leave you in a state of euphoric headbanging. Their sound is a potent blend of heavy riffs, lumbering grooves, and haunting melodies that transport you to a realm where time stands still and the amplifiers go up to eleven. MONOLORD's music is like a slow-moving avalanche, crushing everything in its path with sheer sonic force. With album titles like "Empress Rising" and "Rust", you know you're in for a heavy ride when you press play on a MONOLORD record. Their music is a sonic journey through the depths of despair and ecstasy, taking listeners on a rollercoaster of emotions that leave them both exhausted and exhilarated. But don't let their doom-laden sound fool you – MONOLORD's music is filled with moments of beauty and transcendence that elevate their songs to a higher plane. From the mesmerising vocals of Thomas Jäger to the thunderous rhythm section of Willems and Häkki, this band is a force to be reckoned with. So grab your favourite headphones, turn up the volume, and let MONOLORD take you on a journey through the darkest corners of your mind. Just be sure to hold on tight – it's going to be a wild ride.
