Our Take

MYGRAIN's newest release, simply titled "Vin," is like a breath of fresh air in a crowded metal scene. The Finnish band has managed to create an album that effortlessly blends elements of melodic death metal, thrash, and even a hint of prog, resulting in a truly unique and innovative sound.

From the opening track, "The Wraith," it's clear that MYGRAIN is not content to simply rehash the same old tropes of the genre. The intricate guitar work, thunderous drumming, and powerful vocals all come together to create a sonic landscape that is both heavy and catchy.

Tracks like "Out of Sight" and "Last Light" showcase the band's ability to craft memorable melodies without sacrificing any of their ferocity. The dual guitar harmonies and intricate rhythms keep things interesting without ever veering into self-indulgence.

However, it's on the epic closer, "The End," that MYGRAIN truly shines. Clocking in at over ten minutes, this track is a masterclass in dynamics, with moments of delicate beauty juxtaposed with blistering aggression. It's a fitting end to an album that constantly surprises and delights.

In conclusion, "Vin" is a must-listen for any fan of modern metal. MYGRAIN has managed to create an album that is both challenging and accessible, heavy and melodic. It's a testament to their skill as musicians and their willingness to push boundaries. Don't sleep on this one.

About the artist

myGRAIN

Mygrain, the Finnish metal band that doesn’t take themselves too seriously, have been shredding their way through the scene since 2004. With a sound that combines the melodic sensibilities of classic Finnish metal with the brutal intensity of modern death metal, Mygrain have carved out their own unique niche in the metal landscape. Led by vocalist Tomi Mykkänen, whose guttural screams are as ferocious as they are melodic, Mygrain are known for their high-energy live shows and catchy choruses that are guaranteed to get stuck in your head for days. Guitarists Resa Mäenpää and Teemu Ylämäki bring a technical prowess to the band’s music, with riffs that will make even the most seasoned metalhead nod in approval. But Mygrain aren’t just your average metal band – they have a sense of humour that sets them apart from the rest. From their tongue-in-cheek song titles to their playful onstage banter, Mygrain know how to have a good time while still delivering a killer live performance. With four studio albums under their belt, including the critically acclaimed "Orbit Dance" and "Planetary Breathing," Mygrain have proven time and time again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the metal world. So if you’re looking for a band that can make you headbang and laugh at the same time, look no further than Mygrain. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
