Our Take
Nirvana Under the Covers is a whimsical collection of cover songs that pays tribute to the legendary grunge band in a completely unexpected way. From quirky acoustic versions of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to jazzy renditions of "Come As You Are", this album takes Nirvana's iconic tracks and gives them a fresh, new twist. One standout cover is "Lithium" performed by a ukulele ensemble, bringing a playful and lighthearted energy to the angst-ridden anthem. The juxtaposition of the cheerful instrument with the melancholic lyrics is both comical and oddly captivating. Another highlight is "Heart-Shaped Box" reimagined as a reggae tune, complete with steel drums and laid-back vibes. It's a bold choice that surprisingly works, adding a tropical flair to the grunge classic. However, not all the covers hit the mark. The rendition of "All Apologies" by a death metal band feels forced and out of place, losing the emotional depth of the original track.
