Our Take
Our Take
One would think that an album based on the legendary work of Dylan Thomas would be a poetic masterpiece. One would be wrong. Under Milk Wood, the latest offering from the enigmatic artist, is a confusing hodgepodge of avant-garde sounds and nonsensical lyrics.
From the very first track, "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Remix," it is clear that this album is going to take listeners on a wild ride. And not in a good way. The disjointed melodies and jarring shifts in tempo make for a truly jarring listening experience.
Despite the mishmash of sounds, there are moments of brilliance sprinkled throughout the album. "Fern Hill Funk" manages to find a groove amidst the chaos, while "A Child's Christmas in Wales" offers a melancholic respite from the cacophony.
But overall, Under Milk Wood feels like a missed opportunity. With such a rich source material to draw from, one would expect a more cohesive and thoughtful album. Instead, we are left with a disjointed mess that leaves listeners scratching their heads.
In conclusion, Under Milk Wood is a bold experiment that ultimately falls flat. While there are moments of brilliance, they are overshadowed by the overall lack of direction and coherence. Perhaps next time, Dylan Thomas should stick to writing poetry.
