Our Take

LAMP OF THOTH This Is Not A Laughing Matter

In the dimly lit corners of the metal world, there exists a band that is equal parts menacing and absurd. Enter LAMP OF THOTH, a group of self-proclaimed "doom rock occultists" who have unleashed their latest sonic onslaught, "This Is Not A Laughing Matter."

From the opening track, "Rite the Raging Bull," it becomes clear that LAMP OF THOTH are not here to hold your hand and sing you lullabies. Instead, they pummel you with thunderous riffs, demonic vocals, and lyrics that will make your skin crawl. It's as if Black Sabbath and Monty Python had a love child, and it's a beautiful, terrifying thing.

But don't let the dark and brooding atmosphere fool you - there is a twisted sense of humour running through this album. Tracks like "Satan, Charles and I" and "Blood on the Wall" will have you simultaneously headbanging and chuckling at the sheer audacity of it all.

While LAMP OF THOTH may not be for the faint of heart, "This Is Not A Laughing Matter" is a wild ride that will leave you questioning your sanity and begging for more. So grab your cloak, light some candles, and prepare to be taken on a journey to the depths of hell and back. Just don't forget to laugh along the way.

About the artist

The Lamp of Thoth

Lamp of Thoth are a self-proclaimed "bardic black metal" band hailing from the misty hills of Yorkshire. Led by the enigmatic frontman Count Morgrum, this eccentric outfit has been churning out their unique brand of sinister tunes since the early 2000s. With a sound that blends elements of traditional heavy metal with occult themes and a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek humour, Lamp of Thoth have carved out a niche for themselves in the underground music scene. Their live shows are a spectacle to behold, with Count Morgrum's charismatic stage presence and penchant for theatricality drawing in audiences from all corners of the metal world. Whether they're performing in a dingy pub or a packed festival tent, Lamp of Thoth never fail to deliver a high-energy, devilishly entertaining performance. Despite their somewhat niche appeal, Lamp of Thoth have garnered a devoted following over the years, with fans drawn to their darkly melodic riffs, cryptic lyrics, and unapologetically retro aesthetic. While they may not be everyone's cup of tea, there's no denying the band's commitment to their unique vision and their ability to captivate and entertain listeners with their dark and twisted tales. In a world where so much music feels derivative and uninspired, Lamp of Thoth stand out as a refreshingly original and unapologetically weird presence in the metal world. Love them or hate them, you can't deny that Lamp of Thoth are a band that knows how to make an impression, and for that, they deserve a place of honour in the pantheon of metal's most eccentric and entertaining acts.
