Our Take

In a world where music can often sound the same, Brazilian jazz legend Jose Roberto Bertrami comes in like a breath of fresh air with his latest album "Things Are Different." This record is a wild and wacky journey through Bertrami's brilliant mind, filled with unexpected twists and turns that will leave you scratching your head in the best possible way. From the moment you press play, you're hit with a cacophony of sound that somehow manages to be both chaotic and cohesive at the same time. Bertrami weaves together a tapestry of funky grooves, jazzy riffs, and electronic beats that will have you dancing one minute and pondering the mysteries of the universe the next. But what really sets "Things Are Different" apart is Bertrami's unparalleled musicianship. His skills on the keys are downright otherworldly, with each note he plays feeling like a mini revelation. Whether he's tearing through a frenetic solo or laying down a delicate melody, Bertrami's playing is always a joy to behold. So, if you're in the mood for something truly unique and out of this world, look no further than Jose Roberto Bertrami's "Things Are Different." Trust us, your ears will thank you.

About the artist

Jose Roberto Bertrami

If we could photocopy the sound of sunshine, it would come out sounding like Jose Roberto Bertrami's melodies. The Brazilian keyboardist, composer, and arranger was a key figure in the country's jazz fusion scene, blending bossa nova with funk and samba with soul. Born in São Paulo in 1946, Bertrami cut his teeth with the influential group Trio Mocotó before joining the groundbreaking jazz-funk outfit Azymuth in the early 1970s. Known for his impeccable sense of timing and his ability to craft infectious grooves that stick to the ribs, Bertrami was a master of his craft. His keyboard work with Azymuth helped define the group's signature sound, blending jazz harmonies with funky rhythms and a healthy dose of Brazilian swing. Tracks like "Jazz Carnival" and "Dear Limmertz" are perfect examples of Bertrami's genius, with their infectious hooks and irresistible grooves. Bertrami's influence can be heard in the music of countless artists across genres, from jazz and funk to electronic and hip-hop. His impact on the global music scene is immeasurable, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians to this day. Jose Roberto Bertrami may have left us in 2012, but his music lives on, a testament to his talent and his enduring spirit. Rest in groove, maestro.
