Our Take
Our Take
Iron Maiden's The X Factor is a rollercoaster ride of heavy metal goodness, complete with all the soaring vocals and intricate guitar work you would expect from these British rock legends.
The album kicks off with the epic "Sign of the Cross", a seven-minute masterpiece that sets the tone for the rest of the record. Bruce Dickinson's replacement, Blaze Bayley, may not possess quite the same vocal range as his predecessor, but he more than holds his own with his gritty, powerful delivery.
Tracks like "Lord of the Flies" and "Man on the Edge" showcase the band's trademark energy and aggression, while slower, more introspective moments like "Fortunes of War" prove that Iron Maiden are not afraid to experiment with their sound.
The production on The X Factor is top-notch, with each instrument shining through clearly in the mix. Steve Harris's thunderous bass lines anchor the songs, while Dave Murray and Janick Gers's guitar work adds layers of complexity and depth.
Overall, The X Factor may not be Iron Maiden's most commercially successful album, but it's a solid addition to their discography that showcases the band's versatility and willingness to push boundaries. Fans of classic heavy metal will not be disappointed. 8.5/10.
