Our Take
Our Take
Ah, Rise Against, the merry band of punks who just can't seem to unravel themselves from the grips of political rage and social injustice. "The Unraveling" sees them in their nascent form, a scrappy bunch of Chicago boys with a lot to scream about.
Lead vocalist Tim McIlrath's voice hits you like a pint glass to the head, full of raw energy and conviction. The guitars are as sharp as a freshly-brewed cuppa, slashing through the air with ferocious intent. It's like a spat with your mate after one too many pints at the local.
Tracks like "Six Ways 'Til Sunday" and "Reception Fades" hit you harder than a full English breakfast after a night on the tiles. The band's relentless energy and youthful exuberance are infectious, like catching a cold from your mate who won't stop sneezing.
But don't get too comfortable, because just when you think you've got them figured out, they hit you with a track like "Great Awakening", a slow-burning anthem that lingers in your ears long after the final chords have faded.
"The Unraveling" may not be Rise Against's most polished effort, but it's a reminder of where they came from and the fire that still burns within them. So grab a pint, raise a toast, and let yourself get swept up in the chaos of it all. Cheers, lads.
