Our Take
Our Take
There are few albums that manage to simultaneously captivate and repulse in equal measure quite like CANCER's latest release, "The Sins Of Mankind." This Swedish death metal band has been around since the late '80s, honing their craft and pushing the boundaries of extremity in music.
From the moment the opening track, "Into the Acid," kicks in with its relentless barrage of blast beats and guttural growls, you know you're in for a wild ride. The production on this album is intentionally muddy, with guitars buzzing like a swarm of angry hornets and drums that sound like they were recorded in a cavernous catacomb.
But what really sets CANCER apart from their peers is their unapologetically dark sense of humour. Tracks like "Hung, Drawn and Quartered" and "Die Die" showcase the band's twisted lyrical themes, which touch on everything from political corruption to the futility of existence.
"The Sins Of Mankind" is not for the faint of heart. If you're looking for catchy hooks or radio-friendly tunes, look elsewhere. But if you're a fan of punishingly heavy riffs, nihilistic lyrics, and a healthy dose of gallows humour, then this album is definitely worth a listen. Just be prepared to have your eardrums thoroughly pummelled in the process.
