Our Take

As I slip on my velvet smoking jacket and adjust my round spectacles, I can’t help but feel transported back to the swinging 60s with Downliners Sect’s latest album, “The Sect.” This British invasion-inspired record is a delightful romp through the era of mop-tops and mod fashion, with a cheeky edge that keeps things fresh and exciting.

From the moment the opening track kicks in, you can tell that these lads know their way around a catchy riff. The jangly guitars and driving drums are pure nostalgia, but there’s a modern twist that prevents it from feeling like a mere tribute act. It’s like The Beatles and The Kinks had a lovechild, and that lovechild is now fronting a gritty garage band.
