Steve Marriott, Tim Hinkley, and Greg Ridley must have been feeling extra cheeky when they named their latest release "Scrubbers Vol. 1." And let me tell you, this album is an absolute scrubber in the best sense of the word.
From the moment the needle drops on the opening track, you are transported to a smokey, dimly lit pub in the heart of London. The gritty, bluesy sound of Marriott's vocals paired with Hinkley's groovy organ playing and Ridley's solid bass lines create a musical concoction that is as intoxicating as a pint of Guinness.
Tracks like "Cockney Sparrow" and "Send Your Children to the Orphanage" showcase Marriott's raw talent as a vocalist, while Hinkley and Ridley provide the perfect backdrop of soulful melodies and infectious rhythms.
But don't be fooled by the fun, upbeat sound of this album - there is a darker, more introspective side to "Scrubbers Vol. 1" as well. Songs like "Prisoners" and "I Thought I Was a Child" delve into themes of loneliness and heartache, showing a more vulnerable side to these seasoned musicians.
