Our Take

Ah, Genesis. The dinosaurs of progressive rock. "The Road To Success - 1970-1972" takes us back to the band's early days, before the days of Phil Collins' shiny bald head and Phil Collins' questionable solo career.

The album kicks off with the epic "Watcher of the Skies", a track that will have you feeling like you've stepped into a time machine and landed in the middle of a medieval Renaissance fair. It's all flutes and Mellotrons and Peter Gabriel's haunting vocals.

But don't get too comfortable, because before you know it, you're catapulted into the whimsical world of "The Musical Box", where a young boy meets his untimely demise in a delightfully macabre fashion.

And just when you think you've got a handle on things, Genesis hits you with the funky grooves of "Get 'Em Out By Friday", a satirical tale about a landlord with questionable eviction policies.

Overall, "The Road To Success" is a wild ride through the minds of a band that was lightyears ahead of their time. So grab your cape, dust off your top hat, and prepare to be transported to a land where prog reigns supreme and Peter Gabriel wears more face paint than KISS. Cheers, darlings.

About the artist

Genesis

PROFILE: GENESIS Genesis, the legendary English rock band that emerged in the progressive rock era of the 1970s, has solidified their status as one of the most influential and innovative acts in music history. With a discography that spans over four decades, the band is known for their intricate and complex musical compositions, featuring elaborate arrangements and thought-provoking lyrics. Led by the incomparable Peter Gabriel in their early years, Genesis quickly established themselves as pioneers of the prog-rock movement with albums like "Foxtrot" and "Selling England by the Pound." Gabriel's theatrical stage presence and distinctive vocal style set them apart from their peers, earning them a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim. After Gabriel's departure, drummer Phil Collins took over as lead vocalist, steering the band towards a more commercial sound. Hits like "Invisible Touch" and "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" dominated the charts, showcasing Collins' soulful voice and the band's knack for crafting catchy pop hooks. Despite lineup changes and musical evolutions, Genesis has remained a powerhouse in the music industry, selling out stadiums and inspiring countless artists along the way. Their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 cemented their legacy as one of the greatest bands of all time. Whether you're a die-hard prog-rock aficionado or a casual listener looking for some classic rock vibes, Genesis has something for everyone. So crank up the volume, sit back, and let the timeless sounds of Genesis transport you to a world of musical bliss.
