Our Take

LABTRIO's latest album, "The Owls Are Not What They Seem," is a whirlwind of jazz fusion that will have you tapping your feet and scratching your head in equal measure.

From the opening track, "Blue Rose," the trio showcases their virtuosity and off-kilter sense of humor. The disjointed rhythms and unexpected time signatures keep the listener on their toes, never quite knowing where the music will take them next.

Tracks like "Black Lodge Boogie" and "Dale's Dream" pay homage to the band's love of cult classic TV show Twin Peaks, with eerie melodies and haunting harmonies that would make Angelo Badalamenti proud.

But it's not all about references and inside jokes. LABTRIO are serious musicians with serious chops, and they know how to groove. The funky basslines and frenetic drumming on "The Red Room Shuffle" will have you dancing like a dervish in no time.

Overall, "The Owls Are Not What They Seem" is a wild ride that demands your full attention. LABTRIO may not be what they seem, but one thing's for sure – they know how to make damn good music. Trust us, you don't want to miss out on this one.
