In the grand tradition of washed-up rockstars cashing in on their former glory, Donald Fagen's The Nightfly: Live offers a lacklustre rehash of his classic 80s album.
From the moment Fagen takes the stage in his signature light-up sneakers and dad jeans, it's clear that this performance is going to be more cringe than classic.
The formerly slick grooves of songs like "I.G.Y." and "New Frontier" are now marred by Fagen's gravelly vocals and the band's sloppy, out-of-tune playing.
But hey, at least the audience got to see a legend in the flesh, right?
Not even the addition of a horn section and backup singers could save this train wreck of a live album.
Perhaps Fagen should have taken a cue from his former bandmate and stuck to the hits instead of trying to revive The Nightfly.
In the end, this live album is a disappointing reminder that time is cruel to us all, even the once-cool cats of the music world.
Verdict: Skip this one and stick to the original studio recordings for your Donald Fagen fix.
