The Muffs' latest offering, fittingly titled "Muffs," is a delightful blend of loud guitars, catchy hooks, and unapologetic attitude. The California-based punk rockers have been around since the early 90s, and their experience shows in this tight, energetic album.
From the opening track, "Sugar Kane," it's clear that lead singer Kim Shattuck hasn't lost any of her signature snarl. Her vocals are raw and powerful, cutting through the roaring guitars and pounding drums like a knife through butter. The band's sound is unapologetically retro, drawing on influences from the Ramones to the Pixies, but they manage to make it feel fresh and exciting.
