Our Take
Our Take
If I had a shiny shilling for every time I've listened to The Little Mermaid soundtrack, I'd be richer than King Triton himself. Alan Menken's magical OST has been making waves since 1989, and this picture disc vinyl release gives it a fresh coat of glittering scales.
From the moment "Fathoms Below" kicks off with its jaunty sea shanty vibes, you know you're in for a whale of a time. Menken's catchy melodies and Howard Ashman's clever lyrics transport you under the sea faster than you can say "dinglehopper." And then there's the show-stopping "Part of Your World," where Jodi Benson's vocals soar higher than Ariel's dream of becoming human.
But it's not all smooth sailing in this underwater kingdom. Ursula may be a villainous sea witch, but Pat Carroll's performance of "Poor Unfortunate Souls" is devilishly delightful. And who can forget the cheeky antics of Sebastian in "Under the Sea"? Samuel E. Wright's lively rendition will have you dancing in your living room faster than you can say "flippin' your fins."
So, whether you're a Disney fanatic or just a casual listener, this Little Mermaid picture disc is a must-have for your collection. Just be prepared to have these songs stuck in your head for days. But hey, who can resist singing along to "Kiss the Girl" like a dashing prince in search of true love?
