Our Take
Ah, the Green Album, what a delightfully odd journey into the inner workings of Weezer's ever-evolving sound. With their signature blend of crunchy guitars, infectious hooks, and quirky lyrics, Rivers Cuomo and his band of merry pranksters once again deliver a collection of songs that will either have you tapping your feet in delight or scratching your head in confusion. From the opening track "Don't Let Go," with its propulsive rhythm and catchy chorus, to the anthemic closer "O Girlfriend," Weezer proves once again that they are masters of crafting earworms that lodge themselves firmly in your brain for days on end. The songs may be short and sweet, but they pack a punch that will leave you wanting more. However, it's not all sunshine and rainbows on the Green Album. Tracks like "Hash Pipe" and "Island in the Sun" may have you questioning whether Cuomo and Co. have lost their touch, veering dangerously close to self-parody with their off-kilter lyrics and over-the-top choruses.
