Our Take

Who would have thought that a classically trained pianist and composer could also dabble in the world of jazz and film scores? Well, Andre Previn is here to prove all the naysayers wrong with his "Essential Collection." This album is a rollercoaster of musical genres, blending smooth jazz with orchestral pieces and even a sprinkle of musical theatre.

Listening to this album is like taking a journey through the mind of a musical genius - one minute you're grooving to the funky rhythms of "Like Young," and the next you're lost in the breathtaking beauty of "The Theme from Valley of the Dolls." Previn's versatility knows no bounds, and his ability to seamlessly transition between genres is truly a sight to behold.

But what really sets this collection apart is Previn's undeniable charm and charisma that shines through in every note he plays. There's a playful energy to his music that is infectious, making it impossible not to tap your feet along to the beat.

So, if you're looking for an album that will take you on a musical adventure like no other, look no further than Andre Previn's "Essential Collection." It's a wild ride that will leave you craving more of this musical maestro's magic. Trust me, you won't regret it.

About the artist

André Previn

Andre Previn was a musical chameleon, seamlessly shifting between classical, jazz, and film scores with grace and charm. Born in Berlin in 1929, this polymath pianist, conductor, and composer conquered the worlds of both highbrow and popular music. His career began at the tender age of 16 when he stepped in as a jazz pianist for none other than the legendary Benny Goodman. From there, Previn quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the music director of the Houston Symphony at just 25 years old. Not bad for a guy who could barely see over the conductor's stand. But it wasn't just his conducting skills that set Previn apart; his talents as a composer were equally impressive. With four Academy Awards under his belt for Best Original Score, including one for the iconic film "My Fair Lady," Previn was undeniably a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. However, Previn's classical credentials were equally as impressive. He held positions as the principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, showcasing his ability to effortlessly straddle the worlds of pop and high art. Despite his illustrious career, Previn never lost his sense of humour or his ability to connect with audiences of all ages. His legacy lives on through his vast body of work, proving that true musical genius knows no bounds. So here's to you, Andre Previn, a true maestro in every sense of the word. Rest in peace, knowing that your music will continue to inspire and delight for generations to come.
