About the artist

Little Walter

Little Walter, the harmonica virtuoso with a larger-than-life personality and a penchant for pushing musical boundaries, is truly a force to be reckoned with in the blues world. Born Marion Walter Jacobs in 1930 in Marksville, Louisiana, Little Walter made a name for himself early on by playing on the streets of New Orleans before moving to Chicago in the early 1940s. With a career that spanned over two decades, Little Walter is perhaps best known for his innovative use of the harmonica, pioneering a style that combined traditional blues with a raw, electrifying energy that set him apart from his contemporaries. His 1952 hit single "Juke" remains a classic of the genre, showcasing his unparalleled talent and ability to captivate audiences with his soulful, emotive playing. But beyond his technical prowess, Little Walter was a true original, known for his fiery temper and larger-than-life persona. He was never one to shy away from controversy, often getting into heated arguments with fellow musicians and industry professionals. Despite his turbulent personal life, Little Walter's influence on the blues genre is undeniable, with artists ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughan citing him as a major inspiration. Tragically, Little Walter's life was cut short in 1968 when he passed away at the young age of 37. But his legacy lives on through his music, which continues to inspire and captivate listeners to this day. Little Walter may have been small in stature, but his impact on the world of blues music is undeniably larger than life.
