Our Take
Our Take
JAN & DEAN's "The Very Best Of" is a delightful trip down memory lane, filled with surf rock vibes and feel-good tunes that will transport you straight to the sunny beaches of California.
From the infectious harmonies of "Surf City" to the breezy sounds of "Little Old Lady from Pasadena," this collection showcases the duo's ability to capture the carefree spirit of the 1960s with their catchy melodies and clever lyrics.
But don't be fooled by their lighthearted approach – JAN & DEAN were true innovators in the world of pop music, paving the way for future generations of artists with their groundbreaking production techniques and adventurous songwriting.
Highlights of the album include the driving rhythms of "Dead Man's Curve" and the dreamy nostalgia of "The Anaheim, Azusa & Cucamonga Sewing Circle, Book Review and Timing Association," which prove that JAN & DEAN were more than just a novelty act – they were genuine musical trailblazers.
So grab your surfboard, crank up the volume, and let JAN & DEAN take you on a retro-cool journey through the golden age of American rock and roll. Trust us, you won't be able to resist the charm and infectious energy of this classic compilation.

About the artist
Jan & Dean
Straight out of sunny California, Jan & Dean are the dynamic duo that brought us some of the catchiest tunes of the 1960s. Jan Berry and Dean Torrence first joined forces in the late 1950s, and quickly rose to fame with their signature surf rock sound. Known for their harmonious vocals and infectious melodies, Jan & Dean became synonymous with the surf music movement that swept the nation in the early 1960s. Hits like "Surf City" and "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena" solidified their status as icons of the genre, and their music continues to be a staple of old-school beach playlists to this day. Despite their success, Jan & Dean's career was not without its challenges. Jan Berry's near-fatal car accident in 1966 left him with serious brain injuries, putting a halt to their music production for several years. However, the duo persevered, and with Dean at the helm, they eventually made a comeback in the 1970s. Jan & Dean's music is a time capsule of carefree summers and endless beach days, making them a beloved fixture in the pantheon of surf rock. Their legacy lives on through countless covers and tributes, cementing their place in music history as one of the most influential acts of the era. So grab your surfboard, turn up the volume, and let Jan & Dean transport you to a simpler time when the sun always shone, the waves were always perfect, and the music was always groovy.
