Our Take
Our Take
Scott Joplin, the king of ragtime, has been resurrected in all his toe-tapping glory on "The All-Time Ragtimer." This album is a delightful blast from the past, transporting listeners back to a time when piano keys were tickled and skirts were swirled.
Joplin's compositions are as lively as ever, with each track showcasing his masterful command of rhythm and melody. From the playful "The Entertainer" to the infectious "Maple Leaf Rag," every song is a veritable treasure trove of syncopated goodness.
The musicians on this album truly shine, bringing Joplin's timeless tunes to life with precision and passion. The ragtime piano is front and centre, of course, but the lively brass and percussion add a whole new dimension to these classic tracks.
One can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia while listening to "The All-Time Ragtimer." It's like stepping back in time to a bustling saloon filled with jovial dancers and tinkling glasses. The music is infectious, the energy palpable, and the sheer joy of it all is impossible to resist.
So grab your top hat and cane, because Scott Joplin is back in town and he's ready to get your feet tapping and your heart racing. "The All-Time Ragtimer" is a must-listen for anyone who appreciates good music and a damn good time.

About the artist
Scott Joplin
Scott Joplin, aka the Ragtime King, was a pianist and composer who revolutionised the music scene in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known for his infectious tunes and innovative rhythms, Joplin brought ragtime into the mainstream and left a lasting impact on the world of music. Born in Texas in 1868, Joplin's musical talents were evident from a young age. He honed his skills as a pianist in the brothels and saloons of the American Midwest, where he would entertain patrons with his lively ragtime compositions. Joplin's most famous work, "Maple Leaf Rag," was released in 1899 and became an instant hit, solidifying his reputation as a musical genius. His compositions were a unique blend of African American rhythms and European classical music, resulting in a sound that was both accessible and innovative. Despite his success, Joplin faced numerous challenges during his career. He struggled to gain recognition in a predominantly white music industry and faced financial difficulties throughout his life. However, his dedication to his craft never wavered, and he continued to produce groundbreaking music until his untimely death in 1917. Today, Joplin's legacy lives on in the countless musicians who have been inspired by his work. His influence can be heard in the music of artists spanning a wide range of genres, from jazz to classical to pop. Scott Joplin may have been a king of ragtime, but his impact on the world of music is truly timeless.
