Our Take

PAVEMENT's Terror Twilight: Farewell Horizontal is a rollercoaster of indie rock goodness, with just the right amount of quirkiness to keep you on your toes. From the infectious hooks to the unconventional song structures, this album is a testament to the band's unique sound and vision.

The opening track, "Spit on a Stranger," sets the tone perfectly with its catchy melody and cryptic lyrics. It's a song that will have you singing along in no time, while also leaving you scratching your head trying to decipher its meaning.

Throughout the album, PAVEMENT demonstrates their mastery of blending different genres and influences, from lo-fi indie rock to psychedelic pop. Tracks like "You Are a Light" and "Major Leagues" showcase the band's ability to craft intricate, layered songs that keep you coming back for more.

But it's not all sunshine and rainbows on Terror Twilight. The album also delves into darker territory, with tracks like "Platform Blues" and "Carrot Rope" exploring themes of disillusionment and loss. However, even in these moments of introspection, PAVEMENT manages to inject a sense of playfulness and humour that is uniquely their own.

In conclusion, Terror Twilight: Farewell Horizontal is a fitting swansong for PAVEMENT, showcasing the band's continued evolution and creativity. It's an album that will make you want to dance, laugh, and maybe even shed a tear or two. So, crank up the volume and let PAVEMENT take you on a wild and unpredictable ride.

About the artist

Pavement

Ah, Pavement. The band that effortlessly straddles the line between indie rock royalty and lovable underdogs. Formed in Stockton, California in 1989, this motley crew of misfits was destined for greatness, even if they didn't quite realise it themselves. Led by the enigmatic Stephen Malkmus, Pavement quickly gained a reputation for their unconventional song structures, cryptic lyrics, and scrappy DIY ethos. Their debut album, "Slanted and Enchanted", released in 1992, catapulted them into the indie spotlight with its infectious hooks and off-kilter charm. But it was their sophomore effort, "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain", that solidified Pavement's status as indie darlings. Tracks like "Cut Your Hair" and "Gold Soundz" became instant classics, showcasing the band's uncanny ability to blend melody with dissonance in a way that only they could. Despite their critical acclaim and loyal fanbase, Pavement never quite broke through to the mainstream. And you know what? That's exactly why we love them. They're the ultimate outsider band, the underdogs who never quite fit in but always managed to steal the show. Now, with a reunion tour on the horizon, Pavement's legacy continues to grow. Their influence can be heard in countless indie bands today, proving that sometimes the greatest artists are the ones who never quite get the recognition they deserve. So here's to Pavement, the lovably quirky band that captured our hearts and never let go. Long live indie rock's unsung heroes.
